Ryan emphasizes the significance of communication skills and networking in marketing, sharing an instance where Beal helped him prepare for an interview with IMG. He advises students to be genuine in networking efforts and not to put excessive pressure on landing the “perfect job” right away. Instead, he suggests taking any experience as a learning opportunity and networking extensively during job searches to build connections that may prove beneficial in the future.

Garrison Wilson

Assistant Manager, Promotion Planning & Scheduling, HBO

Garrison Wilson discusses his career journey at HBO, where he currently works as an assistant manager for promotion planning and scheduling. Wilson shares how he took on multiple internships at HBO between 2017 and 2019, even though his initial role was in business legal, to network and meet people in various departments and increase his chances of moving into a more creative role. During his internships, Wilson developed essential skills, particularly networking, and gained valuable experience working closely with agents and handling small contracts. Now in his current role, Wilson utilizes a range of skills, including creating and managing dashboards, using data analytical tools, and collaborating with teams to plan and schedule promotions for HBO’s content. He strategically places content before shows to engage viewers and enhance reach, utilizing targeting capabilities to improve conversions.

Shayna is a recent graduate from Rutgers University-New Brunswick in 2021. Now she works with Rutgers Athletics as a Marketing Coordinator. Throughout her experience with Rutgers Athletics, she is able to work and help coordinate Football game days on and off the field. In addition, she has the opportunity to assist Olympic Sports such as Field Hockey, Men’s Lacrosse, Tennis, and Track and Field with their marketing efforts. Maria Serghiou

Maria graduated from Rutgers with a Bachelors in both Communication and Digital Marketing and a Masters in Communication and Media. From there, Maria found herself in Animal Health at Merck within the Global Marketing Co-Op program. From there, she went to a health marketing agency, Concentric Health Experience, as a content coordinator working with clients such as Regeneron, Novo Nordisk. In pursuit of finding the right blend of marketing and creativity within her skill sets, she now works at DSM in the Development Program that is broken up into three sectors: marketing, commercial and sales in Personal Care for North America.
