Business and Data Services Librarian (University of South Dakota): The university libraries of the University of South Dakota seeks a motivated individual to serve as the librarian for the Beacom School of Business while having the opportunity to contribute to the newly formed Digital Scholarship and Research Services initiative. The successful candidate will proactively collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to support their information and data needs, helping them transform information into scholarship, business and marketing plans, consulting services, and more.

As a member of the university libraries faculty, the Business and Data Services Librarian joins the university libraries’ Digital Scholarship and Research Services initiative to develop and offer workshops in one or more of the following areas: data analysis, data visualization, and data management; serves on the university libraries’ Reference, Research and Instruction Services team to teach information literacy sessions that support the university’s general education curriculum and provide reference services delivered from I.D. Weeks Library; and excels as a liaison to divisions, centers, and programs within the Beacom School of Business and other assigned academic programs.

As a member of the University Libraries faculty, the Business and Data Services Librarian:

Joins the University Libraries’ Digital Scholarship and Research Services initiative to develop and offer workshops in one or more of the following areas: data analysis, data visualization, and data management.
Serves on the University Libraries’ Reference, Research and Instruction Services team to teach information literacy sessions that support the University’s General Education curriculum and provide reference services delivered from I.D. Weeks Library.
Excels as a liaison to divisions, centers, and programs within the Beacom School of Business and other assigned academic programs.

Specific responsibilities include:

Supporting the work of Beacom School students and faculty by promoting and supporting the discovery, use, and management of data; conducting reference and research assistance consultations; providing course-integrated instruction; and creating and maintaining research guides, online tutorials, and other teaching and learning tools.
Advancing the University Libraries’ Digital Scholarship and Research Services initiative by developing and delivering workshops that are available to all USD students and faculty.
Assisting students and faculty in transforming information into research-ready formats.
Promoting services that advance and support Open Access (OA) publishing and Open Data initiatives.
Faculty of the University Libraries carry service assignments and may be assigned research and scholarship loads.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
One or more years of experience as a professional librarian in an academic, government, and/or corporate library.
Experience with data analysis software such as R, SPSS.
Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau.
Experience with Excel.
Experience using scholarly information resources to respond to library users’ information needs and requests.
Experience providing in-person and virtual reference and research consultations.
Knowledge of datasets and tools that specifically serve business, marketing, and economic research.
Knowledge of business databases, such as Bloomberg and WRDS, and emerging trends in business information resources and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in business, economics, social sciences, or data science.
A record of supporting student-led business consulting projects.
A record of facilitating Open Access publishing and/or the management of Open Data among faculty and students.
