The Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance (VPVA)
Digital and Social Media Intern
The Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance (VPVA) works to address and prevent
interpersonal violence (sexual violence, dating violence/relationship abuse, stalking and
harassment) within the Rutgers Community. We assist our students and survivors in four mains
ways:
1. Direct service: crisis response, advocacy and counseling
2. Awareness and Educational Programs: a combination of active and passive programs
throughout the academic year
3. Prevention: primary prevention activities using the Bystander Intervention strategy
4. Policy: policy development and legislative advocacy on the State and National level
Our Social and Digital Media intern position is integral to the success of our outreach, prevention,
awareness, and education efforts.

Responsibilities may include:
Managing Social Media Accounts:
Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are our primary accounts
Some roles may include:
– Creating flyers, graphics, and other forms of media to reach students, staff and faculty
within the Rutgers community
– Ensuring consistent posting to all platforms
– Submitting content for approval from Rutgers marketing
– Creating social media campaigns in accordance of different themed months (domestic
violence awareness month, sexual violence awareness month, etc)
– Tracking analytics to find strengths and room to grow our content
Managing Newsletter:
– You will assist the College Student Affairs intern in creating and disseminating a monthly
VPVA newsletter
Some roles may include:
-Creating graphics for newsletter
– Editing, and revising newsletter
Assisting in Website Updates
Some roles may include
– Updating or removing outdated information from VPVA website
-Updating professional and student staff bios
– Updating upcoming events
This position is ideal for someone who has an understanding or interest in working around the
issues of violence specifically sexual and domestic violence. A background in digital media
editing, and social media management is preferred.
This internship is unpaid. This internship may satisfy for credit requirements depending on major
requirements. Hours expected are from 5-12 hours per week. This internship may be completed
virtually if preferred.
