Montclair Public Library’s Digital Navigation Program aims to increase digital literacy and address the gaps in service to underserved communities in our town. Driven by the core librarianship values of Access and Public Good, we aim to equip our patrons with the tools to engage with a rapidly changing digital landscape–tools now crucial to navigate their daily lives.
Digital Navigation Corps is a program of Literacy Minnesota, an organization that connects people to transformative learning, sparks innovation in literacy and mobilizes change. Literacy Minnesota envisions a future where literacy eliminates injustices and strengthens communities. The literacy work that began 50 years ago in Minnesota is now nationwide, providing curriculum, classes, workshops and research to partners and learners. Digital Navigation Corps is Literacy Minnesota’s response to the digital skills-gap that impacts communities across the country.
Member Duties : The Digital Navigator (DN) will work alongside the Information Literacy Associate to support digital literacy in the community, connecting individuals both on- and off-site to digital resources and provide individual technology help. The DN leads Tech Talks, live demonstrations, and help desk hours at the Reference Desk on digital skills like using smartphones, navigating online forms and applying for jobs. Create clear tutorials and short ‘Tech Tip’ guides for the library’s website and social media, helping patrons learn independently at their own pace. Assistance in outreach to local organizations and community groups will also be required to understand digital literacy needs and tailor programming accordingly. The DN will aid the expansion of Northstar Digital Literacy through instructional computer lab programming and develop a consistent weekly schedule of technology help programming at least 3 days per week.
