Cataloging Intern

Drew University Library is seeking a Graduate Student Cataloging Intern for Summer or Fall 2024. This is an unpaid internship of 150 hours over 10-12 weeks and could be used to earn graduate level course credit at the approval of the student’s graduate program. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a Master’s level Library program and will report to the Cataloging Librarian.

 

Job responsibilities

·         copy cataloging, including descriptive and subject cataloging and authority work for Drew University Library and Special Collections

·         original cataloging for print, serial, digital and Special Collections materials.

·         updating holdings records with collections, call number and barcode information

·         reclassifying collections from Dewey to LC

·         technical processing of print materials with spine labels and property stamping

·         weeding and collection management duties

 

Qualifications:

 

Enrolled in Master of Library and Information Sciences program with coursework in cataloging and technical services, knowledge of relevant metadata standards and practices for library cataloging
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Docs and the ability to learn new applications quickly
Experience using OCLC Connexion Client Software a plus
