This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position with faculty status. This position is responsible for the administration and support of library automated and electronic services. The incumbent will be responsible for research and development of current and emerging technologies in support of the Sister Mary Joseph Cunningham Library’s goals and initiatives. The successful candidate should be highly adaptable to technological change. This position also works as part of our team of librarians to provide outstanding reference service and library instruction.

Reports to the Director of Library Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Systems and Emerging Technologies Responsibilities

Manage the administration and configuration of the GCU Library services platform, OCLC Worldshare Management Services.

Manage library web services including: GCU Library Website and Springshare products (e.g. LibGuides and LibWizard).

Work with the Director of Library Services and librarians to develop a multi-year plan for information technology and web services related library projects and digital initiatives.

Work with the Collection Services and Electronic Resources Librarian to manage, troubleshoot, and test electronic resources (e.g. platforms for databases, journals, eBooks, etc.) both on and off site.

Manage the EZProxy Authentication Services.

Work with the Office of Information Technology to perform periodic maintenance and updates to the EZProxy authentication server.

Act as the library’s liaison with the Office of Information Technology and other departments/offices as needed.

Research and evaluate emerging technology trends and issues, and their application in the academic library.

Ensure the day-to-day functioning and smooth operation of library technology and equipment.
Organize and present regular in-house staff training for new technologies.

Serve as the library’s representative on the Instructional Technology Committee.

Reference and Library Instruction Responsibilities

Provide reference assistance on a regular schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours at times.

Participate in the library’s information literacy instruction program, providing library instruction, both online and face-to-face, to first year students as well as students in designated program areas as assigned.

Participate in the development of library policies and procedures.

Provide specialized research assistance to faculty and students in designated areas.

General and Administrative Responsibilities

Participate in university committee service and Faculty Assembly.

Engage in professional development and other professional activities as appropriate.

Participate in library-wide planning, budgeting, reporting and evaluation activities.

Integrate the core values of respect, integrity, compassion, justice and service into all aspects of interaction.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services to maintain effective library operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

An MLS, or other master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a program accredited in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA’s Human Resource Development and Recruitment Office. Second masters/advanced degree desirable.

Two or more years of experience, preferably in an academic library including reference and library instruction experience.

ILS/LSP management experience required; OCLC Worldshare Management Services Platform preferred.

Experience with system administration of EZProxy preferred.

Experience with HTML, CSS, Java, Content Management Systems, Adobe Creative Suite, and Camtasia preferred.

Excellent communication and problem solving skills, with strong service orientation, and the ability to adapt quickly to technological change.

Experience in an academic library including reference, collection development, and library instruction preferred.

Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively with others in a team-based environment.
