Research Part-time position

Rutgers University’s School of Communication & Information (SC&I) in New Brunswick seeks a detail-oriented graduate student to join our team in a research capacity involving the faculty’s scholarly work. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in academic research support and citation management.
The Intern will work 5 hours per week and report to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
This position will assist with a range of projects involving the faculty’s scholarly work:
Duties
- Compile comprehensive lists of faculty scholarly works, including:
- Books
- Edited volumes
- Book chapters
- Journal articles
- Conference proceedings
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date citation records.
- Set up and monitor Google Scholar alerts for faculty publications, while utilizing other databases to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Verify and cross-reference citation information using Scopus and other scholarly databases.
- Organize and format citations using reference management software.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the completeness and accuracy of publication data.
- Carefully examine citations that appear similar but may have slight variations in formatting or publication dates.
- Regularly update and maintain the citation database to ensure ongoing accuracy.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program, preferably Library and Information Science, Communication, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in using academic databases and search engines.
- Familiarity with citation styles (APA, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management and multitasking abilities
- Enthusiastic and can work individually and as part of a team
- Have outstanding writing/editing skills
Additional Information
- This is a part-time position (5 hours per week) for the 2026-27 academic year.
