Course of Study

Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Information Technology or Computer Science

Term

    • 1 year in length [37.5 hours per week during the summer; ~20-25 hours per week during school year]
    • Internship to begin end of May and end the following May
    • Location – Subaru Headquarters in Camden, NJ
    • $19 an hour (undergrad)

Qualifications

    • Junior (or a Senior planning to pursue a Master’s Degree in the fall)
    • Must be an active student for the entire length of internship
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Requirements

    • Windows and PC experience
    • Microsoft Office experience
    • Programming experience (Java, C, PHP, JavaScript, Perl, or comparable language)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Business courses a plus
    • SQL and/or Unix/Linux experience a plus

Responsibilities

    • Gather and document requirements and write technical specifications for small projects
    • Develop and implement projects according to IT Department standards
    • Participate in software development activities in support of projects, maintenance, and support
    • Assist in project management tasks
    • Assist in infrastructure tasks for database, network, servers, etc.
    • Perform application administration tasks
    • Perform desktop/PC support tasks
    • Communicate with multiple teams within the department and become familiar with their operation
    • Present formal status and learning objectives to management team on periodic basis

Summary

Subaru of America’s Information Technology team serves a critical role in designing, deploying, and managing the applications, hardware, and infrastructure utilized throughout the business to help Subaru achieve its strategic goals. This position has various responsibilities but can include building business requirements for application design, software development, acceptance testing, information system security reviews, desktop software maintenance, and project management. The student will work closely with a project team of developers, business analysts, and managers to gain business and technical experience essential to future career opportunities.
