The Montville Township Public Library, located in northern Morris County (I-80/I-287), is seeking an innovative, creative, and energetic candidate for the position of Youth Services/Community Librarian. Our busy Library is located in a growing diverse suburban community of almost 22,000 and is a part of the MAIN consortium of 49 area libraries.
The Young Adult/Community Services Librarian provides library services and programming for young adults and connects community members of all backgrounds through cultural activities and partnerships. The successful candidate will work with community organizations and our active Teen Advisory Board to create and market engaging programs for teens as well as cultural events for the community at large. They will connect with and guide the community through reference and reader’s advisory and are responsible for overseeing and developing our YA and World Language collections. They will also coordinate our English Language Learning classes, which are taught by a certified instructor.
The successful candidate will have the ability to identify and translate young adult needs and interests into effective library services and programs. They should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons, user groups, community organizations, and volunteer groups and to serve the public courteously. The candidate should stay current with emerging technology, including digital media. This position involves membership in professional committees and provides opportunities for professional development.
General responsibilities will include: Customer Service, Collection Development, Programming, Marketing & PR, and Community Outreach. Knowledge of Polaris library automation is a plus.
Qualifications include an MLS/MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and ability to obtain a NJ Professional Librarian’s Certification.
This is an exempt 37.5 hour per week position and includes weekday, night and weekend hours. The Montville Township Public Library is covered under Civil Service. The salary range for this position is $48,500-$51K depending on experience. All employees are members of the NJ PERS pension plan. The Library offers a competitive benefits package.
