Position: Children’s Librarian

Role Overview:
The North Brunswick Public Library is looking for an imaginative, energetic, and driven librarian specializing in children’s services to become a part of our team. Under the supervision of the Assistant Library Director, the perfect candidate will provide guidance to young readers and their caregivers, enhancing their library experience. As the children’s librarian, you will play a pivotal role in our community and will be responsible for planning and presenting story time programs and weekend children’s events. This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week.
Compensation and Benefits: A competitive annual salary between $60,000 and $65,000, dependent
upon qualifications and experience, and a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits package includes
paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, personal days, comprehensive health benefits, and enrollment in the PERS pension system.

Job Description:
• Plan, design, and implement age-appropriate events for children ages 0-12
• Positive, pro-active attitude and ability to provide outstanding library service
• Orders and manages the children’s collection, including selection and weeding
• Plan, coordinate, and participate in children’s outreach and engagement events
• The ability to work alone and with others
• Create compelling digital content to highlight our children’s library programs and services and
design appealing print flyers, newsletter, and brochures for the children’s department
• Collaborates with educational institutions, commercial entities, and pertinent community groups to
extend outreach services
• Actively promotes library services, programs, and resources
• Provide exceptional reference assistance at our library’s service desk
• Use the library’s automated catalog to perform item searches and place holds
• Advise and assist library patrons in the use of library services, including the library’s electronic
• Proven expertise and abilities in these domains: adaptability, proactivity, collaboration, and patron
• Competence in articulating thoughts and ideas clearly, politely, and effectively in English, both orally and in writing
• Proficient in using personal computers, MS Office suite, ILS software, and navigating the internet
• Proficient in Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter, YouTube, WordPress, Polaris
• May be required to perform other duties not listed

• A Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from an American Library Association
accredited program
• Valid Professional Librarian certification issued by Thomas Edison State University
• Valid NJ Driver’s License and the ability to travel to off-site community outreach events
• Must comply with the “New Jersey First Act”
• Experience with the Internet, electronic databases, social media, and digital applications
• Ability to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
• Successful completion of a thorough criminal history background check
• Physical and mental capability to perform job tasks
• Successful completion of a 90-day probation period
