Montclair Kimberley Academy, an innovative PreK-12 independent day school with a strong national reputation and a
recognized 1:1 laptop learning program, seeks a part-time (20 hours/week) Primary School Library Assistant beginning the
2023-2024 school year. Responsibilities include circulation management, collection support, and supporting students and
faculty with use of the library and its resources. The Library Assistant will help create a welcoming, cozy, environment that
celebrates reading, inquiry, and exploration.

students’ narratives, provides a safe environment to explore and discuss multiple perspectives and helps transform

Qualified Candidates will meet the following criteria:
● Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
● Library experience (preferred)
Collection Support / Circulation Management:
● Check out books to students during class check out and open circulation time while Librarian works 1:1 with
students conducting reader’s advisory interviews
● Keep the online catalog current and discard materials as needed
● Communicate with families regarding overdue, missing and lost library materials
● Track ordering/receipt of library materials
● Maintain relationship with vendors relating to library materials and supplies
● Process and catalog library materials
● Repair books and other materials
● Order, track, and process periodicals
● Check in and shelve circulated materials; shelf read to maintain organized collection
● Conduct ongoing collection inventory (to support librarian in keeping library current through weeding and
diversity auditing)
● Maintain inventory of office and book processing supplies
● Manage and distribute library book bags
● Manage Primary School new patron import into Destiny Library Catalog each Fall and maintain patron records
throughout the school year
● Record statistics for library program and resources evaluation
● Support and communicate library policies and procedures
Physical Library and Community Support:
● Manage scheduling of library space
● Prepare library for special events and programs
● Ensure library has all necessary supplies for student and faculty use
● Assist with preparation of displays (shelves, end caps, bulletin boards)
● Assist with supervision of students using the library
● Assist with student check out during library classes and open circulation times
● Assist students and faculty with location and use of print and digital resources
