Social Media Internship with AP’N3

Hours: Estimated hours per week ~10, fluctuating based on the short-term objectives
Modality: Hybrid. Some meeting and project-based in-person requirements, with some work done remotely.

The non-profit Asbury Park Arts Council (APAC) seeks a social media intern proficient in Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to support the strategic social media plan promoting the organization’s AP’N3 Film Challenge. Enthusiasm for film production is a plus!
About the Project
The AP’N3 Film Challenge, sponsored by APAC, is a creative competition where participants have three weeks to produce a three-minute film that includes a required theme, prop, location, and line of dialogue that are revealed on day one of the challenge. This year, the challenge is celebrating its fifth year and will include a special student category proposed to take place April through June, with the main challenge taking place August 1st-21st. The challenge culminates with a one-day Premiere Screening event, tentatively scheduled for November 1st at the Jersey Shore Arts Center in neighboring Ocean Grove.
Duties of the social media intern:
- Meet with APAC’s AP’N3 planning committee members and the social media manager to gain an understanding of the goals of the organization and challenge
- Collaborate with APAC’s AP’N3 planning committee members and the social media manager in identifying audiences and creative development across platforms
- Execute tactics of the strategic social media plan through posts, videos, captions, etc.
- Monitor social media channels, responding to comments/messages, and interacting with followers as needed
- Assist with reporting and analytics
The social media intern will gain experience in non-profit marketing and communication strategies and tactics, and get a behind-the-scenes look at coordinating and executing a film challenge.
Learning Objectives

- Apply theories of digital communication, audience engagement, and brand strategy in a live arts-event environment.
- Analyze and interpret social media analytics to inform data-driven marketing decisions.
- Develop multimedia storytelling skills in alignment with nonprofit arts communication goals.

Applied Learning Components
1. Strategic Digital Communications Planning
- Participate in pre-event campaign planning meetings.
- Assist in developing a comprehensive social media content calendar aligned with event milestones.
- Translate organizational mission and program objectives into platform-specific messaging.
2. Multimedia Production & Editorial Practice
- Produce short-form video, photography, written copy, and graphic content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and related platforms.
- Conduct structured interviews with filmmakers and participants to support narrative storytelling.
- Apply visual communication and media production principles in real-time event coverage.
3. Analytics & Research Integration
- Track engagement metrics and performance indicators across platforms.
- Prepare periodic analytic reports evaluating reach, audience growth, and engagement patterns.
- Formulate strategic recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative data.
4. Community & Arts Administration Exposure
- Gain insight into nonprofit arts management and event-based marketing operations.
- Observe how community arts initiatives contribute to local cultural and economic development.
- Collaborate with arts administrators, creative professionals, and community stakeholders.
