Schedule: 35 hours per week
Mon: 1-9; Tues thru Fri: 9-5; Rotating Saturdays

In order to apply for this position, you must have a Master’s Degree in Library or Information science and minimum of 2 years of Librarian experience.

Examples of Duties:
Duties include direct public service at the Teen Services and Information desks; programming; outreach; collection maintenance; supervision of department staff, including Maker Space staff; daily department operations; continuing education and training for staff. Position reports to Teen Services Coordinator, who has overall responsibility for Teen Services Department. Departmental goals, activities, and resources are developed by the Librarian 3 in close communication with the Teen Services Coordinator and Branch Manager. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic advocate for teens; demonstrate knowledge of new and emerging programs; technologies; print and electronic resources; and Young Adult Literature. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership and organizational skills, as well as a strong commitment to introducing teens to library resources though programming, outreach, volunteer opportunities, and partnering with other organizations serving teens. This position covers one Saturday per month and one evening per week and will periodically be the Person-In-Charge of the building.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of programming, and outreach
Collection maintenance
Supervision of department staff and daily department operations, continuing education and training and some direct service at the service desk.
Develop departmental goals, activities, and resources in close communication with the System Teen Services Coordinator and in support of OCL’s mission, vision, goals, diversity and strategic plans.
Enthusiasm in advocacy for teens
Knowledge of new and emerging programs, technologies, print and electronic resources, including young adult literature.
Excellent organizational skills
Strong commitment to introducing teens to library resources through programming, outreach, volunteer opportunities and partnering with other organizations serving young adults.

Education and Experience Requirements:
A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master’s Program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.

Two (2) years of librarian experience.

A New Jersey Professional Librarian certificate or ability to obtain one.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey as the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Librarian 3 is a competitive Civil Service title. The selected applicant must be either (a) reachable on an active eligible list or (b) if a complete list doesn’t exist, successfully complete the Civil Service exam process and be reachable on the resulting list.
