The University of Texas Libraries is seeking two creative and service-oriented Liaison Librarians to serve our Health and Behavioral Sciences communities, providing reference assistance, in-depth information consultations, collaboration on systematic reviews, instruction, outreach, and Open Science support to disciplines such as Human Development, Kinesiology & Health Education, Nursing, Nutrition, Public Health, and Social Work. These positions are key members of our collaborative and supportive STEM & Social Sciences liaison team, one of several teams in the Research Support & Digital Initiatives department. Liaisons in our department are particularly focused on deepening our connections with graduate students and faculty as they plan, implement, and disseminate original research. We look for new and creative ways to scale information literacy instruction, provide teaching support for faculty, and enhance student success. We foster local initiatives to advance Open Science, Open Access publishing, and Open Educational Resources. We partner with colleagues in the Scholarly Resources department to ensure access to the resources students and scholars need while maximizing our collections budget. Finally, we strive to keep evolving our services, programming, and skill sets in response to our users and the ever-changing research and teaching landscape of higher education.




  • Research Support, Scholarly Communication, & Digital Initiatives: Provide research support to students and scholars at all stages of the research lifecycle. Consult on systematic reviews, data management, grant proposals, and scholarly publishing. Advance scholarly communication and Open Science awareness among assigned communities.
  • Teaching & Learning: Plan and conduct classes, create learning objects, and initiate or engage in other activities to advance information/digital literacy among students. Support faculty in selecting and gaining access to course materials, including OERs. Develop and maintain subject-specific guides and instructional materials.
  • Engagement & Outreach: Establish and maintain relationships within assigned community of students and scholars. Attend, participate in and plan engagement forums/activities/events within UTL, the UT campus and beyond. Communicate the impact of your work internally and externally.
  • Professional Development & Service: Actively participate in the work of UT Libraries and related professional and scholarly communities, particularly by serving on committees, leading or participating in strategic projects/initiatives, and presenting/publishing. Maintain awareness and develop skills related to evolving job responsibilities.
  • Collection Stewardship: Engage in collection development/management activities related to assigned subjects, in collaboration with the STEM and Social Sciences Collections Coordinators. Steward and manage assigned endowments, gifts, and start-up funds. Promote collections, particularly materials unique to UT, through digital projects, UTL communication venues, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science, or equivalent degree.
  • 4+ years of librarian experience, preferably 2+ years as a liaison librarian.
  • Enthusiasm for providing inclusive, user-centered research services to students and scholars.
  • Experience providing research services, especially to graduate students, faculty, researchers, or health/social services professionals.
  • Experience designing learning objects (tutorials, LibGuides, etc), teaching library-related skills to upper-level and graduate students, and strong commitment to innovative and collaborative instruction.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility, and the ability to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and colleagues.
  • A proactive, self-starter approach to work and a willingness to respond to tasks and opportunities with initiative, flexibility, creative energy, and leadership.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree from a health, psychology, or sociology discipline.
  • Medical Library Association’s (MLA) Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) certification.
  • Experience working in a health or social services setting, and/or experience supporting health and behavioral science students/scholars in an academic library.
  • Experience with finding and working with health and social science data sets.
  • Experience providing support for systematic reviews and familiarity with tools such as Rayyan and Covidence.
  • Experience using and teaching citation management tools Zotero and/or EndNote.
  • Demonstrated awareness of trends in scholarly communication and Open Science, particularly in areas such as: OA publishing, author rights, publication metrics, research data management, and data curation/sharing.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries and managing complex stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to be successful in the design and promotion of innovative programming and services.
